Dr. Johann Pitz has, as a partner of the firm, established the legal patent department of Vossius&Partner based on many years of litigation experience before civil courts, the Federal Patent Court, the European Patent Office as well as the Federal Supreme Court.He has been attorney-at-law since 1991 and represents German as well as international clients in patent litigation, invalidation and opposition proceedings in specially tailored teams with European Patent Attorneys qualified in all relevant technical fields. Johann has handled a number of cross-border proceedings and important infringement cases concerning “Erythropoietin and clinical trials”, “implant and catheter technologies”, “coffee pads and contributory infringement”, “nano-dispersions as fuel additives“ and “methotrexate”. Since 2009 Johann is selected continuously for inclusion in the ranking of Best Lawyers and recommended in Who´s Who Legal as leading expert in Germany.He is member of the GRUR Expert Committee, LES, AIPPI, AIPLA, VPP, and vice-president of the Union-IP Litigation Commission and is listed as a mediator in the registry of the Munich Lawyer Chamber. He is a regular speaker on IP conferences in Germany and abroad and author or co-author of numerous publications concerning patent enforcement, including Beck's practitioner handbooks “Patentverletzungsverfahren” and “Patent Litigation in Germany, Japan and the United States” as well as “Münchener Anwaltshandbuch” and the Patent law commentary Fitzner/Lutz/Bodewig.Before his admission to the Bar he passed his Second State Examination in Munich and started as research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright and Competition Law where he completed his studies with a Ph.D. (Dr. iur.) and worked as assistant to the chair of Prof. Schricker at the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich.
