Steven has deep expertise in commercial litigation and insolvency law, after spending close to 30 years as a leader of the insolvency and restructuring group at Blakes, Cassels & Graydon LLP.Steven’s practice encompasses all aspects of complex domestic and multinational restructuring and insolvencies. He prides himself on taking a calm, practical and cost-efficient approach to even the most complex multidimensional and multidisciplinary issues. Steven regularly represents purchasers of distressed debt and assets, debtors, court-appointed officers, and major stakeholders of insolvent businesses – often, on an urgent basis.Steven is a graduate of Trinity College at the University of Toronto and the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. He has been regularly recognized as a leader in insolvency law by Chambers and Partners, Lexpert, ILFR, and Who’s Who Legal, among other notable agencies.Steven is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada (IIC) and Chair of the Communications Committee. He is general editor of the National Creditor Debtor Review, as well as a former executive of the Turnaround Management Association. He regularly speaks at industry conferences and seminars on insolvency law and litigation matters.In his free time, Steven also dedicates his efforts to United Jewish Appeal, Prostate Cancer Canada, and the Bay Street Fore a Cause Foundation, a non-profit organization of Bay Street professionals who raise funds to support underprivileged children in the GTA.
