Paul’s practice is restricted to medical negligence. He has settled or resolved more than $100 million in medical negligence claims on behalf of victims of medical mistake, including the 3 largest single payouts in physician negligence claims in Canada. He has been admitted to the bar in Ontario, Alberta and Nunavut. He represents individuals across Canada. Paul holds degrees in economics, law and a master’s degree in business administration all from the University of Western Ontario. Paul has been involved in several high profile matters including the Commission of Inquiry into the Blood Supply in Canada, the Commission of Inquiry into the Deployment of Canadian Forces in Somalia and the Wilson Hepatitis B Class Action lawsuit which resulted in the largest medical malpractice settlement in Canadian history. He was lead counsel in the widely publicized mass tort litigation involving Whitby gynaecologist Errol Wai-Ping and was one of the lead counsel in the Testaguzza Acupuncture Class Action. He was most recently successful in obtaining compensation for 99 former patients of Scarborough Gynaecologist Richard Austin. Paul is a President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA), and past chair of OTLA’s Medical Malpractice Section. He is also a member of the American Association of Justice, the Advocates Society, and other professional associations. Paul is frequently invited to speak at continuing legal education seminars.
