About Neil
Neil is the Chair of Torkin Manes' Litigation Department and a member of the Torkin Manes Advisory Committee. He also chairs the firm's Health Professionals Group. Neil acts for both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of legal disputes including contracts, torts, employment law and personal injury.He is particularly experienced in providing counsel to and litigating on behalf of not-for-profit and charitable corporations.Neil has a large number of reported decisions to his credit; however, his practice is particularly focused on health law and he is one of the few lawyers certified by The Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Health Law. He is also certified by The Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Civil Litigation. This makes Neil one of only a handful of lawyers in Ontario who is a Certified Specialist in both health law and civil litigation.Neil routinely represents physicians, dentists, pharmacists, veterinarians and other regulated health professionals. He regularly defends clients in hearings before the Discipline Committees of the various Colleges regulating health professionals in Ontario, and appears on appeal before all levels of court. He has also acted for many medical staff associations and for physicians in numerous hospital privilege disputes.Neil has been recognized by his peers in the 2017 edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada for Health Law and is on the Canadian Dental Protective Association’s list of approved counsel.
