About Matthew
Matt Davis is a graduate of UC Hastings Law San Francisco, obtaining his law degree in 1989. He worked for a San Francisco litigation boutique until 1992, when he was recruited by the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office. From 1992 through 2001, he represented the municipality and its employees in jury trials and appeals in both state and federal courts. While working for the City, he had an active role in San Francisco’s litigation against the Bank of America that culminated in a $187 million settlement, and obtained a record-breaking judgment against a title insurance and escrow company for more than $50 million.Matt has focused his practice on matters that he personally cares about, and he and his colleagues have strived to make their communities safer, and prevent future injuries, deaths and tragedies.Matt joined the Walkup Firm in 2001, and has since handled many legally significant and high value cases in state and federal courts. He has helped obtain hundreds of millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for his clients.Matt has focused his practice on matters that he personally cares about, and he and his colleagues have strived to make their communities safer, and prevent future injuries, deaths and tragedies. As an example, Matt is a lifelong recreational bicyclist and it breaks his heart every time he hears about a bike rider getting hurt or killed. He has helped numerous injured cyclists achieve civil justice. He has also spearheaded the firm’s efforts to distribute tens of thousands of safety lights to bike riders every year for the past eight years.Similarly, in 2020, Matt and partners Michael Kelly and Richard Schoenberger helped prosecute a groundbreaking case on behalf of their alma mater UC Hastings and residents and businesses in the San Francisco’s Tenderloin district that resulted in a swift settlement whereby the city agreed to clear tents and encampments from the sidewalks and streets of that embattled neighborhood {read article here}. The firm’s work on that case was done pro bono.
