Josh Nisker is a founding partner of Beyond Law LLP, a Toronto-based litigation firm focusing on serious personal injury cases including medical malpractice, wrongful death and insurance disputes. The firm prides itself on its hands-on and personalized approach.Josh completed his law degree at the University of Western Ontario, where he graduated with distinction and placed in the top 5% of his graduating class. After being called to the Bar in 2007, Josh pursued graduate legal studies at the University of Cambridge, England, where he obtained his Master of Law (LL.M.) on a Cambridge Commonwealth Trust scholarship. Before founding Beyond Law Josh was a partner at one of Canada’s top-ranked personal injury law firms.Josh takes a methodical yet practical approach to cases. While recognizing that settlement is often the preferred resolution for his clients, he has taken cases to arbitration and trial where necessary. Josh has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Justice, the Ontario Divisional Court, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal. Josh’s notable cases include G.C. v. Jugenburg, 2021 ONSC 3119, Sopher v. Primmum, FSCO A15-001693, Mamado v. Fridson, 2016 ONSC 4080, McMillan v. Adeite, 2016 ONSC 3918, Marcus v. TTC, FSCO P14-00005, and Evtropova v. Minister of Education, 2015 ONSC 3321, which involved the tragic death of two-year-old Eva Ravikovich at an illegally-run daycare in VaughanIn addition to serving his clients, Josh is actively involved in Toronto’s legal community. He is a past executive member of the Insurance Law Group of the Ontario Bar Association and has sat on various working groups that involved making submissions to the Law Society of Ontario and the Attorney General of Ontario. Josh has presented as a guest speaker for the Law Society of Ontario, the Advocates’ Society, the Ontario Bar Association, the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law (Lakehead University), and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in the areas of personal injury law, negotiations, and the business of law. He has also published in a wide range of areas including personal injury law, privacy law, criminal justice, and Shakespeare. His articles have been taught at universities in both Canada and the United States. Josh was also involved in developing the civil litigation course for Ryerson University’s Law Practice Program. Currently, Josh provides guidance and mentorship to other lawyers as a volunteer coach with the Law Society of Ontario’s Coach and Advisor Network.Josh was recently recognized by Lexpert as one of Canada’s “Leading Lawyers to Watch” in the field of personal injury litigation. He has also been selected for inclusion in the 2020, 2021, and 2022 editions of “Best Lawyers in Canada” in the field of personal injury litigation.
