Jason M. Swergold is a highly accomplished and results-oriented former federal prosecutor and trial attorney dedicated to providing aggressive and sophisticated legal representation to clients facing complex criminal and regulatory challenges. With nearly a decade of experience working within the U.S. Attorney’s Office and a distinguished career as an associate at prestigious firms like Shearman & Sterling LLP, Mr. Swergold brings a unique blend of courtroom expertise, investigative prowess, and strategic thinking to every case. He currently co-leads the firm’s Criminal Defense & Investigations Practice and serves on the Last Minute Trial Team, specializing in government investigations, internal investigations, and demanding commercial litigation matters.
Mr. Swergold’s career began with a commitment to public service as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he honed his skills prosecuting a wide range of serious offenses. Over eight years, he successfully tried 12 federal criminal cases, consistently delivering favorable outcomes for his clients. Furthermore, he argued 10 appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, demonstrating a mastery of appellate law and a relentless pursuit of justice. His leadership extended beyond trial work, as he served as Co-Chief of the Narcotics Unit, Acting Deputy Chief of the Violent and Organized Crimes Unit, and most recently, Deputy Chief of the White Plains Division, overseeing all federal criminal prosecutions across Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, Dutchess, and Sullivan counties.
During his tenure within the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Swergold’s investigations and prosecutions encompassed a diverse and challenging portfolio of cases. He tackled intricate matters involving racketeering, homicide, organized crime, labor union corruption, and gang-related and drug-related violence. Recognizing the significant impact of international and domestic narcotics trafficking, he specialized in investigating and prosecuting complex cases involving substantial drug networks. His expertise also extended to combating sex trafficking, elaborate fraud schemes, and firearm offenses. Mr. Swergold’s meticulous approach and deep understanding of criminal law consistently yielded successful outcomes, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to upholding the law.
Prior to joining Yankwitt LLP, Mr. Swergold’s legal journey included valuable experience as an Assistant Attorney General in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office and as an associate at Shearman & Sterling LLP. While at Shearman & Sterling, he was a pivotal member of the trial and appellate team responsible for securing the **reversal of a hedge fund manager’s insider trading conviction and dismissal of the indictment**, alongside the **vacatur of a state inmate’s death sentence**. This success showcased his ability to navigate complex legal arguments and achieve favorable results for his clients.
