About Ian
Ian practices exclusively as a civil litigator, primarily in the areas of insurance, personal injury, product liability and commercial litigation, appearing as counsel in over 300 trials, arbitrations, inquests and appeals. He has lectured and written for the legal profession, law students, the insurance industry, business and community groups on a variety of topics including trial advocacy, insurance, mediation and government relations.Ian was called to the Ontario Bar in 1982 after attending the University of Western Ontario for undergraduate studies in Political Science and completing his law degree at Osgoode Hall. He was certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Civil Litigation in 1991.As a member of the Ontario Bar Association, Ian has acted as President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Section Co-ordinator and Chair of Auto Insurance, Government Relations and Finance Committees. He was appointed by the Attorney-General (Ontario) to the Ontario Class Proceedings Committee from 1996 to 1999 and appointed by the Minister of Justice (Canada) to the Federal Judicial Advisory Committee serving from 2006 to 2009.He is also a member of The Advocates’ Society, Defense Research Institute, Canadian Defence Lawyers and Toronto Lawyers Association.Ian is listed as a leading civil litigation practitioner in The Best Lawyers in Canada for his work in Insurance Law and Personal Injury Litigation and by LEXPERT Business of Law in Personal Injury Litigation.In 2014, Ian was honoured by the Ontario Bar Association with the Distinguished Service Award.
