She also served as Legislative Counsel at the Council of the District of Columbia, a highly impactful role where she played a key part in introducing and ultimately passing the Detained Youth Access to the Juvenile Services Program Amendment Act of 2019. This groundbreaking legislation permanently established a Public Defender program within the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services, granting detained and committed youth vital access to education on their legal rights, legal support, and crucial access to counsel. This work demonstrates Veronica’s commitment to social justice and protecting vulnerable populations.
Veronica’s legal foundation is exceptionally strong. She received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from The George Washington University Law School and holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Howard University. Throughout her academic career and subsequent internships, she has cultivated a broad range of legal skills and knowledge. She’s served as a Judicial Intern at the Superior Court for the District of Columbia, gaining invaluable insight into the judicial process. Furthermore, she has acted as a Law Clerk at a small general litigation firm in Washington, D.C., contributing to diverse legal cases, and a Legal Intern for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, bolstering her understanding of civil rights law and advocacy. These experiences have solidified her commitment to providing strategic legal counsel and achieving favorable results for her clients.
Veronica is licensed to practice law in both Virginia and Washington, D.C., and is a proud member of several professional organizations, reflecting her dedication to continuing education and collaborative practice.
