About Peter
Peter Eastwood practices in all areas of labour and employment law. He joined Hamilton Howell Bain & Gould in 2012, after practicing for nine years at a national law firm, where he was a partner.Called to the bar in 2003, Peter has advised employees, employers and unions on a wide variety of issues in the workplace, including terminations and severance packages, employment standards, human rights, privacy and personal information, labour relations, workers’ compensation, illness and disability, occupational health and safety, restrictive covenants and post-employment duties, workplace investigations, professional regulatory matters, and judicial reviews of administrative decisions. He has appeared before most courts and employment tribunals in British Columbia.Peter also has extensive experience with WorkSafeBC issues, including claims, assessments, safety and discriminatory actions, and appeals before the Review Division and Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal. He frequently advises employees on bullying and harassment issues in the workplace, including mental disorder claims under the Workers Compensation Act. Peter often presents on employment topics at conferences and seminars, and has been interviewed about workplace legal issues in publications such as The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, National Post and The Lawyers Weekly as well as on the Bill Good Show on CKNW. A member of the Board of the North Shore Neighbourhood House and a regular volunteer with the Access Pro Bono and Salvation Army legal programs, Peter was a co-founder of the CoRe (Conflict Resolution) Clinic at UBC, which provides low-cost mediation services for people in the community who would otherwise not be able to afford them. He is also Adjunct Faculty and an Instructor at the Pacific Coast University for Workplace Health Sciences.
