Lawrence S. Katz graduated from the University of Miami with a BBA degree in government and a minor in psychology. He attended the University of Miami Law School and graduated early in January 1968. Subsequently, he pursued attended the LLM program in International Law.His first employment was with Hoffman & St. Jean, P.A. as a law clerk and associate, focusing primarily on criminal and family law. As a law clerk, he drafted filings to challenge the constitutionality of the Miami Beach billboard statute. In federal criminal law within the 5th Cir., he contributed to changing the law concerning interstate transportation of stolen property.Afterward, he worked as a solo practitioner for a period, sharing space with other lawyers.
