In addition to his legal practice, Jim is deeply involved in the Kansas City community. Since moving there from New Orleans in 1995, he has served on several boards with significant roles:
- Served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce for eight years (2014), including a leadership role as Chairman.
- Was a member of the Board of Directors for the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens from 2008 through 2014.
- Currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Arts and Recreation Foundation of Overland Park, where he will be elected President in 2016.
