Heather Jones has extensive practical experience in a broad range of litigation with her focus being complex corporate/commercial matters. She has been responsible for the successful resolution of shareholder disputes, officer and director liability matters, international fraud, contract disputes, fiduciary duty issues, governance problems, business purchase and sale conflicts, negligence claims and employee matters.She also has a wealth of experience in construction litigation. She assists clients on a day-to-day basis through difficult building issues, advises on builder’s liens, lease problems, expropriation issues, zoning conflicts, land use and construction damage liability as well as strata matters. She has been responsible for the successful resolution of a variety of matters from the developer, builder, insurers and the owner’s perspectives. She also advises upon surety matters and other insurance related issues. She is experienced in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, mediation and arbitration and has appeared before a variety of boards and tribunals.While Heather enjoys the courtroom, she is regularly consulted on risk management and litigation avoidance issues. She has successfully negotiated resolutions to arising conflicts for local, national and international organizations on a variety of matters including directors and officers’ fiduciary duties, employment issues, construction matters and intellectual property concerns. She taught at UBC Law School as a sessional professor, guest lectures at the University and various colleges and she regularly mentors young lawyers through programs such as the Women’s Legal Forum and others. She has co-chaired the Vancouver General Hospital Gala, been vice-chair of the Goldie Hawn Foundation and assists local small businesses after successfully starting and running one herself.
