Harold Stephens is a litigation attorney in the firm's Huntsville office. He began his practice in 1980 as an Assistant United States Attorney in Birmingham. For more than twenty years, he has handled a variety of civil litigation, both at the trial and appellate level.In his litigation practice, Harold has defended numerous products liability claims involving forklifts, chainsaws, logging equipment, medical devices, computer software and hardware, punch presses, farm equipment, electrical devices and other products. Harold has represented clients in a wide spectrum of business and commercial litigation, including contract disputes, fraud claims and trade secret litigation. A significant portion of his practice is devoted to the defense of professional malpractice claims, especially physicians and attorneys. His government contract litigation experience includes defense of claims related to the International Space Station. He has defended and is currently handling a number of wrongful death cases in product liability, vehicle accident, and medical malpractice claims. Another significant part of Harold's practice is the representation of employers in labor/employment litigation, including discrimination and wrongful termination cases. Finally, Harold regularly serves as a mediator. He is a member of the Panel of Neutrals for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama and a charter member of the Alabama Academy of Attorney Mediators. He has mediated hundreds of cases including employment matters, product liability cases, complex business litigation and personal injury/wrongful death cases.Harold has successfully tried and argued on appeal numerous cases involving a broad array of claims. He has handled litigation matters not only in state and federal courts across Alabama but has also represented clients in litigation matters in Florida, Georgia, California, Iowa, Tennessee and Nebraska. He has successfully argued cases on appeal before the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, the Alabama Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
